Abstract
ABSTRACT: The objective of the work is to present the discussion of self-injurious behavior (SIB) in the adolescence phase and the contribution of psychological intervention in coping measures. Some relevant factors are considered, such as biological, psychological and social. The existing family interaction model was analyzed, which, when dysfunctional, can contribute to emotional maladjustment and, subsequently, directly interfere in the behavior of the adolescent child. The study was developed through bibliographic research, which included books, articles, theses and dissertations from BVS-Psi, Google Scholar, Pepsic and Scielo platforms. There are a number of biological and psychological changes that occur during the transition from childhood to adolescence, which may trigger an emotional vulnerability in the subject and thus lead him/her to self-destructive behaviors, such as the practice of self-injury. It is concluded, through several scientific studies, the effectiveness of psychotherapeutic treatment through the approach of Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT).
